A real RIP OFF! I broke my key in the lock and fortunately was able to pull it out with a pair of pliers. The lock needed replacing (that's why the key broke). I had to borrow a key from building security who recommended Quality.
Well, there must be some major kickbacks going on. The guy came and only had to replace the tumbler (the part the key goes in) not the entire lock assembly. I needed two tumblers (deadbolt and latch). He talked me into locks that require special codes to duplicate keys. It sounded like a good idea. He installed the two tumblers and handed me two keys for each lock. I said that I would need one more key for each lock. He said that they would cost extra. Then he gives me the bill and I almost fell over.
He charged me $558.00 for the two tumblers, an extra $25.00 per key plus the service charge and tax. Here's the real kicker, wait for it...
Like he wasn't ripping me off enough I handed him my credit card and said, there would be an additional 12% if I used a credit card. I had no other way to pay him except the credit card. The end result...I paid $856.00 to have two lock tumblers replaced and two keys for each lock. I was only visiting the pied-à-terre overnight and was desperate to have the lock replaced or would have done it myself. To rub salt in the wound I checked online and I could have ordered the locks for $35.00 each and each lock came with 4 keys. If I was staying longer I could have purchased the locks online and replaced them myself. Even if I had to go to The Home Depot to buy a couple of tumblers it would have been a lot cheaper than what I paid. If I could give them less than one star I would. BTW, on my next trip to the city I went to another locksmith and asked what he would have charged me to replace two tumblers with security ones and extra keys for each...$225.00.
CUSTOMER BEWARE! This was a few years ago. Yelp says that they are now permanently closed. I sure hope so. Scammers that they were, they are probably operating under a different name and location. Do your due diligence before using anyone. Get the cost upfront and try not to be in the desperate situation as was I.
